You may be aware of the upcoming legislative changes related to ADHD, which come into effect on Monday 2 February.
Following extensive discussion within our GP team, we would like to confirm that Naenae Medical Centre will not be offering an in-practice ADHD assessment service.
ADHD is a complex condition that requires additional specialist training and a significant amount of time to assess and manage. At present, we are unable to provide this service without placing a substantial additional workload on our GPs, which would also result in longer wait times for routine appointments for our patients.
We expect to receive further information in the near future regarding which local practices will be offering ADHD assessment services and where we can refer patients. As usual, our GPs are still able to make onward referrals to psychiatric services for ADHD assessment; however, this does require a GP appointment.
In addition, the New Zealand Telepsych Network offers a self-referral service for adult ADHD assessments. More information is available at:

Thank you for your understanding.
Kind regards,
Naenae Medical Centre
